Hello, my name is Oumou Sy! I have been a New York based licensed Natural Hair Technician since 2000. Growing up in Senegal, I would create hair care products for myself, family and community at my leisure or upon request; that desire coincidentally remained with me.

I came to America to become a schoolteacher. Needing employment, I helped a friend with a hair project. It was then when I realized that hair care is where I found joy and understood my natural passion for the art.

Life afforded me the opportunity to learn in experienced and highly renowned salons such as Hair Design by Oumou. I’ve worked with the highly respected Mishon Mishon, to whom I am forever grateful to for inspiring my creativity, being my mentor and creating a job opportunity for me at Turning Heads Salon. There I spent nine years of my professional career perfecting my craft, and at Carol’s Daughter Hair Salon I solidified my clientele.

In my journey of creating beautiful hair styles for my clients, I have been successful in improving the condition of their hair, educating them on how to care for their hair between appointments and stimulate hair growth. Using my hair oil creations to nurture natural hair, by fermenting organic ingredients provided by mother earth, my clients began to refer my services. Their continuous satisfaction and loyalty lead me to open my own salon in Harlem, New York.

Here I created a spa-like ambiance for my clients to escape their busy lives and embrace my pampering. From specialized shampoo and conditioning techniques to the quick wash and style for an event, my clients have 100% of my skill set. I love what I do! I love the response to the scent of a fresh wash as much as the reaction to a detailed style. Customer satisfaction and education are my ultimate goals and I appreciate everyone who walks through my door.
